How this calculator works

Stripe's standard US rate is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful domestic card payment. When the card was issued outside your country, Stripe adds a 1.5% cross-border fee, bringing the total to 4.4% + $0.30.

It's the card's origin that matters, not the customer's location

The international rate applies based on where the card itself was issued, not necessarily where your customer is physically located — a customer traveling abroad using their home-country card still counts as domestic to Stripe.

A quick example

A $500 payment with a domestic card: 2.9% ($14.50) + $0.30 = $14.80 in fees, netting $485.20. The same payment with an international card: 4.4% ($22.00) + $0.30 = $22.30 in fees, netting $477.70 — a $7.50 difference.

FAQ

Are there volume discounts? Yes, Stripe offers custom/negotiated pricing for higher-volume merchants, typically starting in the tens of thousands of dollars per month in processing — this calculator uses the standard published rate.

Does this include Stripe's monthly fees? Stripe's standard plan has no monthly or setup fee — you only pay the per-transaction rate. This calculator reflects per-transaction cost only.

What about ACH or bank transfers instead of cards? ACH debit payments through Stripe are typically much cheaper (around 0.8%, capped at $5) than card payments — this calculator is for card payments specifically.
