VAT Calculator for Business Invoicing

Add VAT to a price you're about to invoice, or extract the VAT already included in a price.

Base Amount$0
VAT Amount$0
Total (VAT-Inclusive)$0

How this calculator works

In 'Add VAT' mode, your amount is treated as the base price and VAT is added on top. In 'Extract VAT' mode, your amount is treated as already including VAT, and the calculator backs out the base price and VAT portion.

VAT rates vary a lot by country

The UK standard rate is 20%, most EU countries range from 17-27%, and many countries also have reduced rates for specific goods and services — always confirm the correct rate for what you're invoicing and which country's rules apply.

A quick example

Adding 20% VAT to a $1,000 invoice: VAT is $200, total $1,200. Extracting VAT from a $1,200 VAT-inclusive amount at 20% gives the same result in reverse: base $1,000, VAT $200.

FAQ

Do I charge VAT on international invoices? It depends on the reverse charge mechanism and where your client is located — B2B sales to VAT-registered businesses in other countries are often zero-rated with the reverse charge applying instead. Confirm your specific situation with an accountant.

What rate should I use? Use your country's standard VAT rate unless the specific goods or service qualifies for a reduced or zero rate — these vary significantly by country and category.

Is this tax advice? No — this is a calculation tool only. Confirm your specific VAT registration status, applicable rate, and invoicing requirements with a tax professional.
