See exactly what Etsy takes from a sale — listing fee, transaction fee, and payment processing — and what you actually keep.

How this calculator works

Etsy charges three separate fees on every sale (US rates): a flat $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total the buyer pays including shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25. All three come out of the total, not just the item price.

Why shipping counts against you

Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and processing fee both apply to shipping charges too, not just the item price. If you charge $5 shipping on a $35 item, Etsy takes its cut of the full $40 — factor this into your shipping pricing, not just your item price.

A quick example

On a $35 item with $5 shipping ($40 total): listing fee $0.20, transaction fee $2.60 (6.5% of $40), processing fee $1.45 (3% of $40 + $0.25). Total fees: $4.25. You receive $35.75 — about 10.6% of the total sale.

FAQ

Does this include Offsite Ads fees? No — Offsite Ads is a separate, optional 12–15% fee that only applies if a sale comes through one of Etsy's off-site ad placements. It's mandatory (12%) once you've made $10,000+ in the past year, and optional (15%, opt-outable) below that.

Do rates differ outside the US? Yes. Payment processing rates vary by country — UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20, Australian sellers pay 3% + A$0.25, for example. This calculator uses US rates.

Is the listing fee refunded if the item doesn't sell? No, the $0.20 listing fee is charged when you list (or renew) an item and isn't refunded if it doesn't sell within the 4-month listing period.
